In my view, all paintings are abstract and all painters are doing the same thing: embodying ideas in paint. Painting is a continuing tradition of visual language as old as humankind and I am proud to belong to it. My aim is to produce objects of enduring significance and beauty from themes of the figure and landscape, flowers and the interplay of light and reflections on water. I love colour and all types of paint, the formal challenges of composition, and the sheer physicality and tonal subtlety of white chalk with charcoal, pastel and conté crayon.
