I became enthusiastically aware of polymer clay as a design material after arriving by chance upon the website of a very skilled polymer clay beadmaker.
As a medium it's possibilities seemed to be limited only by my imagination and since that time, I have been hand crafting beads, jewellery and art tiles from this wonderfully versatile material.

I was trained as a sculptor and historian and worked as an Art Teacher in Hull and Beverley. My avid interest in history and natural forms is reflected in my work. Armour and natural forms are closely linked and I have tried to capture the hard shell like structure of this interesting but frightening looking man-made defence mechanism.

My work is constantly evolving and currently I am investigating abstraction using simple colours with strong monotone undercurrents. I mainly use homemade dragging tools and even sometimes a paint brush! I love to use bold intuitive sweeps of the paint mixing the colours on the canvas.

Oil painting and mixed media print. I tend to work in themes and develop small series of work. Presently, I am exploring the boundaries between traditional landscape and portraiture - exploring the idea of face, gaze, as a destination and the emotive qualities of place and still life.

My interest is in capturing a moment in time, a feeling or perhaps even subconscious thought. My inspiration comes from what I see around me, of our fragile and amazing world and also my inner world of thoughts, feelings, and experiences and sometimes dreams. I like to work in acrylic, oils and also with photography. My aim is to tempt, inspire, move and challenge, drawing the viewer into the experience.

Having endeavoured to escape a working lifetime of technical drawing, my relaxed, Clarice Cliff style of painting in acrylics, focuses mainly on local landscapes and seascapes.
I believe that one of the drawbacks of being self taught is that it makes it harder to break into the traditional art 'set' but the benefits come from the self exploration involved in producing a piece without a set of rules.
